You generally cannot promote your product in r/SomebodyMakeThis. Rule 2, "No Promotions," says posts promoting "Products, Ideas, or Platforms" for selling or enrolling users are not permitted, and it only allows certain promotions inside a pinned thread in the Highlights section. The public description also says, "Did you create something? Share it with us in the monthly Creator Showcase thread!"

What gets removed

  • Posts promoting products, ideas, or platforms for selling or enrolling new users
  • Spam and unrelated content
  • Referral links, blog spam, pyramid schemes, unpaid jobs
  • Posts without a SMT: tag will be deleted

Safer ways to show up

  • Use the monthly Creator Showcase thread if you created something
  • If the pinned Highlights thread allows certain promotions, keep promotion there and follow its outlined restrictions
  • Post idea submissions with the required SMT: tag
  • If you implemented an idea from the subreddit, post the implementation in the original thread and credit the idea originator and the community
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
