community rules

Can you promote your product in r/SocialMediaMarketing?

You can promote only under clear limits. The sidebar says "Blatant Advertising Attempts" will be removed unless you "provide content that adds value to our community / the overall SMM discussion," and Rule 4 says job opportunities and service advertisements must go in the monthly threads. Rule 2 also bans deceptive promotion or manipulation, including astroturfing and repeatedly plugging the same link or service.

The rules that cover promotion

Blatant Advertising Attempts

"Blatant Advertising Attempts: To avoid having your post deleted, you must provide content that adds value to our community / the overall SMM discussion."

Rule 2: No Deceptive Promotion or Manipulation

"We do not allow: Coordinated or inauthentic activity intended to artificially boost a person, company, product, or service"

Rule 2: No Deceptive Promotion or Manipulation

"Astroturfing, such as posing as a regular user to promote something for personal or financial gain"

Rule 2: No Deceptive Promotion or Manipulation

"If your comment history shows you plugging the same link or service over and over again with no other discussion, safely assume your post or comment will be deleted."

Quoted from the subreddit's own rules, snapshot from July 2026. Read all 4 rules on Reddit

What gets removed

  • Blatant advertising attempts that do not add value to the community or SMM discussion
  • Coordinated or inauthentic promotion, and astroturfing
  • Posts or comments from accounts that keep plugging the same link or service with no other discussion
  • Link posts that do not lead directly to the relevant content, including signup forms blocking access

Safer ways to show up

  • Share content only if it adds value to the community or the overall SMM discussion
  • Put job opportunities and social media marketing service ads in the monthly threads, as Rule 4 directs
  • Link directly to the relevant content described by your title, with no signup wall
  • Participate in normal discussion instead of repeatedly plugging the same link or service
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
