Can you promote your product in r/shopify?

No. The subreddit description says it is a "promotion-free sub," and Rule 4, "Soliciting, Promotion, or Direct Soliciting via DM," says "This is not the place to promote yourself or services to the members here." The sidebar and submit page also ban "spamming, content marketing, advertising, promotions, or soliciting of any kind," and Rule 6 says external links and content marketing are not allowed.

The rules that cover promotion

Public description

"Note that this is a promotion-free sub and the rules (please read them) are very strictly enforced."

Sidebar rule text

"No spamming, content marketing, advertising, promotions, or soliciting of any kind allowed."

Rule 4: Soliciting, Promotion, or Direct Soliciting via DM

"This is not the place to promote yourself or services to the members here."

Rule 6: No spamming or links to external content.

"The sharing of any links, be it in a YouTube description or otherwise is not allowed. Content marketing via blog articles will not be allowed."

What gets removed

  • Promotional, advertising, content marketing, or soliciting posts or comments
  • Direct or private solicitation, including requests for DM or inviting DM, may result in a ban
  • External links, blog articles, signup links, app links, and external course links
  • Store or app reviews, except if part of an AMA or approved review thread

Safer ways to show up

  • Ask or answer questions that are directly and exclusively about Shopify
  • Keep your post specific and unique to the Shopify platform, not general ecommerce
  • If you need feedback on a store, post it to r/reviewmyshopify
  • If you include an example in a question description, avoid unapproved links and anything promotional
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
