community rules

Can you promote your product in r/iOSProgramming?

Yes, but only under clear limits. Rule 4 says, "Self-promotion is allowed to some extent" and requires more substance for paid products or services, while Rule 7 says, "Only post your app on Saturday" and limits you to one app post, once a year. Blatant ads or spam may be removed, and posts about apps have a narrow allowed lane.

The rules that cover promotion

Rule 4: Self-promotion is allowed to some extent

"Self-promotion is permitted to a certain extent. If your product or service is behind a paywall, we expect you to provide a description of your product or service, the challenges you faced, and, perhaps as a bonus, a technical overview of it."

Rule 4: Self-promotion is allowed to some extent

"However, we do not allow blatant advertisements or spam. Articles or links that solely exists to promote a paid product or service may be removed at our discretion."

Rule 7: Only post your app on Saturday

"You may post about one app, once a year."

Rule 7: Only post your app on Saturday

"You cannot make more than one app post per year. You may not post about multiple different apps within the same year."

What gets removed

  • Blatant advertisements or spam
  • Articles or links that solely exist to promote a paid product or service
  • App posts outside the Saturday, one-app, once-a-year limit
  • Posts unrelated to Apple platform development

Safer ways to show up

  • If you promote a paid product or service, include a description, the challenges you faced, and ideally a technical overview
  • For an app post, use the Saturday lane and keep it to one app, once a year
  • Share technical articles, code samples, or open source work that fit Apple platform development
  • Participate with helpful, on-topic discussion and follow the FAQ guidance for beginner questions
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
