Can you promote your product in r/IndieDev?
The provided rules do not address self-promotion directly. The sidebar says, "there are no strict rules here, use common sense when you post," and the only explicit content restriction is Rule 1, "Capsule Comparison Post Ban, Except on Wednesdays," so Reddit-wide norms apply.
What gets removed
- Capsule Comparison Posts are banned, except on Wednesdays
Safer ways to show up
- Share indie-related posts, the submit page says: "Post whatever you like as long as it's indie!"
- Use GIFs and images, the guidelines say these are the community-preferred medium
- Post with peers in mind, the sidebar says this is "a room full of peers," not your audience per se
- If you want to do an AMA, add a game jam, or another event, message the moderators
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
