Can you promote your product in r/Emailmarketing?

You can promote your product in r/Emailmarketing only under tight conditions. Rule 6, "Limit self-promotion," says "The bar for self-promotion is high" and requires genuine value, originality, and clear disclosure of affiliations, and Rule 5 bans deceptive promotion, referral links, affiliate links, astroturfing, and undisclosed affiliations.

The rules that cover promotion

Rule 6: Limit self-promotion

"The bar for self-promotion is high. To provide genuine value to the community, self-promotion must showcase a novel approach, creative strategy, or otherwise original idea. All affiliations must be clearly disclosed."

Rule 6: Limit self-promotion

"Users who primarily engage in self-promotion rather than meaningful participation will have their posts removed."

Rule 5: No financially motivated advice

"Content containing referral or affiliate links will be removed, and any user promoting products or services through deceptive means, such as astroturfing or undisclosed affiliations, will be banned."

Rule 8: Show, don’t tell

"Thought leadership posts must demonstrate how something works in practice, not just describe ideas or principles. Include examples, metrics, or execution details."

Quoted from the subreddit's own rules, snapshot from July 2026. Read all 8 rules on Reddit

What gets removed

  • Referral or affiliate links are removed
  • Self-promotional posts from users who primarily self-promote instead of meaningfully participating are removed
  • Low-effort, vague, and AI-generated content may be removed
  • Purely conceptual posts or posts lacking clear application may be removed

Safer ways to show up

  • Share something original: a novel approach, creative strategy, or other original idea
  • Clearly disclose your affiliation if you mention your product or service
  • Participate meaningfully beyond promotion, not primarily through self-promotional posts
  • Use examples, metrics, or execution details to show how something works in practice
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
