Can you promote your product in r/copywriting?

You can promote something in r/copywriting only in limited ways. Rule 2 says, "A wee bit of self-promotion is fine, so long as it's a free & helpful resource," and Rule 3 requires disclosure if payment or email signup is needed. But posts that are "all pitch and no value," undisclosed lead gen, affiliate links, AI tool links, and posts advertising your copywriting services are removed or banned under Rules 2, 3, 5, and 8.

The rules that cover promotion

Rule 2: No bilking, scamming, spamming, or profiteering.

"This isn't a marketing channel. A wee bit of self-promotion is fine, so long as it's a free & helpful resource. If links lead to a paid or lead gen effort, it must be disclosed or the post will be removed."

Rule 3: No undisclosed or unsolicited links

"Links are fine, but you must disclose whether payment or email signup is necessary to access information. Posts or comments that exist only to shill a product or service will be removed and the user will be banned."

Rule 5: No AI Shills

"No links to AI copywriting tools, no product reviews, no beta tests. Instant ban for anyone who posts this stuff. Only discussion is allowed."

Rule 8: Job ads are fine. Pitching your copy services is not.

"It is ok to make a post about hiring. It is not ok to make a post advertising your copywriting services."

What gets removed

  • Posts that are all pitch and no value
  • Undisclosed paid or lead gen links
  • Posts or comments that only shill a product or service, affiliate links can also get you banned
  • AI copywriting tool links, reviews, or beta tests, and posts advertising your copywriting services

Safer ways to show up

  • Share only a free and helpful resource, not a sales pitch
  • Disclose clearly if a link requires payment or an email signup
  • Link a free or paid service only when replying to someone's question or request
  • Use the required post flair when you submit
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
