Can you promote your product in r/ChatGPT?

You can promote something in r/ChatGPT only under specific limits. Rule 3, "Self Advertising," says posts "must be directly related to ChatGPT or the topic of AI" and "may not be solely focused on advertising a single other LLM service," and the structured rules add that those posts "should directly go to weekly self-promotional mega thread, which is pinned."

The rules that cover promotion

Rule 3: Self Advertising

"Posts must be directly related to ChatGPT or the topic of AI. They may not be solely focused on advertising a single other LLM service"

Rule 3: Self Advertising

"They may not be solely focused on advertising a single other LLM service (these posts should directly go to weekly self-promotional mega thread, which is pinned)"

Rule 2: No Trashposts

"Posts deemed to be entirely without value or effort may be removed if they have not generated interesting discussions before their discovery."

Quoted from the subreddit's own rules, snapshot from July 2026. Read all 6 rules on Reddit

What gets removed

  • Posts solely focused on advertising a single other LLM service
  • Low-effort or entirely without value posts
  • "Is ChatGPT down?" posts
  • NSFW content, repeated offenses may result in a ban

Safer ways to show up

  • If your post promotes a single other LLM service, use the pinned weekly self-promotional mega thread
  • Keep your post directly related to ChatGPT or AI
  • Make it useful and substantive, not low effort or purely promotional
  • Participate in good faith and avoid misinformation presented as fact
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
