Can you promote your product in r/branding?

You generally should not promote your product in r/branding. The sidebar says, "Self promotion in any form will be banned/removed without warning," but Structured Rule 1, "Limit Self-Promotion," allows self-promotion in comments only when it is sincere, relevant, and genuinely helps answer someone’s request for help or advice. Direct promotional posts are not allowed.

The rules that cover promotion

Limit Self-Promotion

"We permit self-promotion within comments as long as it's sincere and relevant to the discussion... However, direct promotional posts are not allowed."

Sidebar Rules

"Self promotion in any form will be banned/removed without warning."

Article Posting

"If you're sharing an article, your post must include either an excerpt or the full body of the content."

Sidebar Rules

"Posts must contain more than just a link."

What gets removed

  • Direct promotional posts are not allowed
  • Self promotion in any form may be banned or removed without warning
  • Posts that contain only a link
  • Article posts without an excerpt or the full body

Safer ways to show up

  • Answer questions first, and only mention your content in comments if it sincerely helps
  • Keep any self-promotion to relevant comments, not standalone posts
  • If you share an article, include an excerpt or the full text in the post
  • Make sure your post contains more than just a link
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
