Can you promote your product in r/Android?

You can promote your own app in r/Android only under narrow conditions in Rule 4, "No self-promotional spamming." Developers may post their own apps only if the post is a self post with a detailed description, the account is at least three months old with a reasonable posting history on r/Android, and the developer actively interacts in the thread; website, blog, and YouTube channel owners are generally not allowed to post their own content.

The rules that cover promotion

Rule 4 - No self-promotional spamming

"Developers may post their own apps, provided: 1- Their post must be a self post with a detailed description of their app."

What gets removed

  • Self-promotion that does not meet Rule 4 conditions
  • Posts that benefit only the individual, including self-promotion, if they violate the rules
  • Blog-spam, rehosted content, and reposts
  • Affiliate links in posts or comments

Safer ways to show up

  • If you are a developer, use a self post with a detailed description of your app
  • Post only from an account that is at least three months old and has a reasonable posting history on r/Android
  • Stay in the thread and respond to users, do not just drop a link and leave
  • Focus on discussion-promoting posts that benefit the community, such as guides, reviews, or discussions
Whatever the written rules say, the pattern that gets promo removed everywhere is the same: batches of similar comments, reused wording, and necro-posting on old threads. A promotional mention only has value if it survives, so pace matters more than volume. We measured this the expensive way: 70% of bought pool comments were removed within two weeks.
